New Name & A New Rifle on the Wishlist

Follow the stories on the new blog, with a new name and URL. I won’t be updating this blog site after this post… it will all be over there.

The rabbit hunting planning had to take a backseat this weekend due to a friend visiting and one heck of a Baby Shower. Good food, company and the boys were there too. Excellent idea for the mom-to-be to make it a coed party with the emphasis on party. The men were happy with beer, cigars and messy food. The ladies were happy with mimosas and amazing desserts. Perfect end to the weekend.

Although the planning and finding of a secret rabbit hunting spot has been stalled I did manage to find my wishlist rifle add-on. Just need to pinch a few pennies for a very short while and pick it up.

Ruger 10/22 rifle, The Compact.

Got great feedback on the fanpage about it, what can you tell me?

What’s A Girl to do? Become a Housewife and Go Hunting

There has been a bit of a snag in the tiny beginning of this blog and the fanpage. It started with the fanpage… Long story short and without getting bogged down with details, the site is getting a bit of a makeover. In the end it is about feeling good in everything you do. I like to look on the brighter side, my world has had enough chaos to know the brighter side is a much better place to be. With that said, the blog and fanpage is coming out with a new name. **look for changes over the next few hours, days & weeks

I am so grateful to live somewhere that allows us as a country, as a people, to express ourselves in every way possible to include doing it on a box with a flashing screen that can be transmitted across oceans. It is amazing and because of this freedom I can switch things up a bit, change my mind and continue on with my day feeling good. One thing that feels really good is the fanpage, it has started to pick up with fans and photos.

Of Course I am thrilled with the new Title and tag line. Because I am an Artist, in my core, I find that mistakes usually turn into masterpieces. Next step for this masterpiece… make sure everyone knows about the changes by hopping over to Outdoor Blogger Network, hopefully they can update their site without any snags. Not liking snags lately. So I hope you don’t mind the clutter and confusion as things get switched out and words get rearranged, it will be lovely again I promise.

I would be so thrilled if you commented, left kind words and better yet, stopped by the fanpage From Housewife to Hunter to chime in on the latest topics.

authors notes: A few of the posts below (thankfully their weren’t many) have changed in images and have been or will be edited a bit to correlate with the recent changes. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Closely Guarded Secrets: The Houswife Wants to Hunt Rabbit

We are taking a week or two to make plans and get ready for our next hunting adventures. Cottontail Rabbit and Snowshoe Hare season is open and that makes for a good excuse to plan some outings and hiking trips. I have been looking online for suggestions on where to hunt in Washington State for rabbit and it seems like that is too broad of a question. Then there are the forums I come across and the answers are like trying to find directions to the fountain of youth. No one wants to give up “their spot”, I get that I truly do. Especially if things are hard to come by, why would you want to give away your secret spot. And my only rebuttal to that is “Can you give me a hint, just a tiny hint?”

Did you come across the same issues when you started hunting?

Were you lucky enough to have a someone give you a hint?

If you have suggestions on where to look it would be awesome if you left a comment below.

The Hunting Housewife: Picture Perfect on The Delta

On my first duck hunting trip I went with my husband on the Nisqually Delta. He has recently discovered the sport after moving back to our home state of Washington. Purchasing the bare minimum he needed to get out in the water to secure the good spots for himself on the delta he would always come home relaxed and calm. Some days he was happy because of the bounty he was bringing home, other times he would come home empty handed but still smiling. I wondered what would cause him to still be happy even after a “bad hunting day” and now I know.

It was 12pm, I stepped into the canoe (first time for that also) trying not to freak out as it wobbled, once the canoe was pushed out and my husband joined me I looked up. Then immediately hurried to pull my camera out of my waders chest pocket still holding my breath, you know to help keep the canoe upright and snapped this picture. After that moment I wasn’t too concerned with whether the canoe was going to hold us and not tip. It was the clearest sky Western Washington had seen in a week, right after our first Snow/Ice storm of the new year.

Has that ever happened to you?

Where the hunting outcome paled in comparison to the view?

**we did manage to get a single duck on that clear warm afternoon

The Housewife Gets Dirty: Hunting in a Swamp

This past Monday I went on my first duck hunting adventure. We road out to a familiar spot that my husband had been using for the past 3 months. When we pulled up to the edge of a muddy bank he says to me, “Just walk up to the front of the boat to get out”. Somehow that translated to, get out of the boat and walk to the front.

And into the mud I went. As I realized I was making a mistake my foot was already being grabbed by the mud and down I went. Mud up to my knees. I thought I could have stopped the process but in doing that I put my other foot out. Yep both feet, mud to my knees and my Husband laughing hysterically. In someways it was a good thing to get dirty right from the get go, everything that followed didn’t gross me out one bit. ~~~ And yes I smelled great.

Tell Me: What mishap took place on your first outing, that induced laughter?
